After these few weeks of learning about poetry, I feel quite confident that I can analyse poems and get my opinions across successfully. I have realised that everyone can have a different interpretation of a poem and that it is alright even if what you thought the poem was about is not what the author meant. Knowing this helped me feel more confident about how I analyse poems because I know that I cannot be 'wrong' unless I don't explain myself or give evidence for my opinions.
I think that I could look over and make myself more familiar with different types of poetic devices because I feel that overall I need to understand them a bit better to help with my analysis. I understand most of the poetic terms but I just need to review them to make sure my understanding of them is right.
I found the lesson where we looked at the poem "Limbo" quite helpful because initially most of us agreed that it was clearly about a slave's journey on a slave ship but after Mr. Martin explained to us that the poem could be seen as something as different as a heart transplant, I learnt that eventhough my opinion may be different from someone elses, my interpretation is still right as long as I give evidence.
Overall I feel quite confident that I can analyse poetry, but as I mentioned earlier I should read over the types of poetic devices to make sure I fully understand them.
